Tottenham at the verge of signing Bundesliga midfielder former Celtic target

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Ko Itakura, a defender Ange Postecoglou has long desired.

After missing out on Ko Itakura with Celtic, Ange Postecoglou could finally sign him for Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham’s quest for new center backs is still ongoing, with a number of names already being connected.

If Tottenham go along the homegrown route, Max Kilman and Tosin Adarabioyo are two names that have been considered.

There are also choices in the Bundesliga, such Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven.

Another allegation is circulating in Germany that Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ko Itakura is wanted.

According to Sky Germany, Tottenham is competing with Napoli for Gladbach star Itakura.

Florian Plettenberg adds that Itakura is ‘open to a change’ this summer with Spurs now seemingly an option for him.

Itakura, 26, only joined Gladbach from Manchester City last summer and was a regular with 22 Bundesliga starts last season.

Only a knee problem between September and November kept Itakura from playing more games for Gladbach.

Tottenham are now interested and there may be one clear driving force behind this interest – Ange Postecoglou.

We know that Postecoglou loves to shop in the Japanese market having landed the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate at Celtic.

Itakura could have joined the Japanese stars in Glasgow if the former Yokohama F. Marinos manager had his way.

Postecoglou planned to sign Itakura in 2021, according to the Daily Record, but he ended up joining Schalke on loan instead.

Because Schalke couldn’t afford to sign Itakura on a permanent basis, the Manchester Evening News reported that Celtic were interested again.

Postecoglou and the Bhoys were again out as Itakura signed a permanent agreement with Gladbach.

After a year, Postecoglou may finally sign Itakura, this time with Tottenham, as the former Manchester City man may finally be given a Premier League chance.
