Newcastle is one of the Premier League clubs said to be interested in Birmingham City academy midfielder Trevan Sanusi. Last season, the 16-year-old winger routinely trained with Birmingham’s first-team but has yet to make his first-team debut.
However, Premier League heavyweights Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, and Manchester City have been made aware of the teenager’s potential.
According to the Daily Mail, all six clubs scouted Sanusi while he was at Birmingham’s academy, which is known for developing probably the best young talent to come from England in recent years in Jude Bellingham.
A decision on the England Under-16 international has still to be made, as Premier League clubs explore moving through with a contract.
Newcastle United are hoping to add numerous young players to their academy system as sporting director Dan Ashworth strives to boost the club’s development setup.
Several adolescents were signed by the Magpies last season, including Alex Murphy, Reece Byrne, Charlie McArthur, Jude Smith, Jordan Hackett, Amadou Diallo, and Garang Kuol. Yankuba Minteh, 18, joined from Odense for a reported £7 million as United’s first summer signing.
Typically, the club is seeking to develop young players into great professionals ready for first-team football while saving a significant amount of money on transfer fees in order to conform to Financial Fair Play requirements while remaining competitive for years to come.
