Bayern Munich is at the verge of completing the deal to sign Napoli’s massive defender

Bayern Munich is close to finalizing the signing of Kim Min-jae from SSC Napoli. Bayern Munich is preparing to activate the center-back’s €50 million release clause in order to lure him away from Napoli and fill the vacuum created by Lucas Hernandez’s move to Paris Saint-Germain.

According to football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the South Korean international will undergo the first stages of his physical today, before both clubs make the move 100% official. He also stated that the medical is not being held in Munich, but did not indicate where it was being held. This plan was exposed in the last few days because it had long been known that personal terms had previously been agreed upon with the player himself, and it was simply a matter of fine-tuning the finished specifics between both teams.

Per Romano, Min-jae is set to sign a five-year deal for Bayern, which would keep him with the Rekordmeister through the summer of 2028. Once this deal is made official, Min-jae would become Bayern’s second defender signed this summer after Raphael Guerreiro joined from Borussia Dortmund and Bayern’s third summer transfer overall as they also signed Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig. Technically, though, 90% of the Laimer deal was completed in the winter, so much so that the club had to crop out both Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic from the press release photos.

Following the completion of all parts of Min-jae’s medical, the club will most likely officially announce his signing and issue a thorough press release. If this can be completed within the next week or two, Tuchel will be able to have him for a significant portion of Bayern’s preseason preparations for the upcoming season while still pursuing a Harry Kane deal.
