Boston Celtics ex-big ten star sends a proposed double sign-and-trade

In a double sign-and-trade proposal from Heavy’s Josh Buckhalter, the Boston Celtics would get Ayo Dosunmu, a former Big Ten star point guard, from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for restricted free agent Grant Williams.

With the Bulls having signed Jevon Carter away from the Milwaukee Bucks for three years and bringing back Coby White on a multi-year contract extension, there is no need for the Bulls to invest more long-term in the point guard position — especially if Lonzo Ball returns for the start of the 2024-25 season after being ruled out for the current season.

In terms of Williams, the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis in a blockbuster trade for Marcus Smart, as well as the signing of Oshae Brissett, make a return improbable unless the Celtics can sign the restricted free agent at the midlevel exception cost. MassLive’s Brian Robb suggested that Brissett might “conceivably” replace Williams in the C’s frontcourt.

“Brissett is still just 25 years old and has shown enough promise in Indiana to be a useful depth piece for certain matchups,” Robb said before adding, “He is also conceivably a very low-cost Grant Williams replacement (and a far worse shooter) if the team loses him via free agency or a sign-and-trade.”
