The world of football is under transition. With Lionel Messi’s stunning departure from Paris Saint-Germain to the MLS’s Inter Miami, rather than back to FC Barcelona as some had predicted, both of the names that dominated football and Ballon d’Or lists for the better part of the last two decades are now out of Europe.
(The other is, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo, who departed Manchester United in the middle of the season.)
When asked about the transfers, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala responded.
“I think it’s a kind of change of an era,” the 20-year-old German midfielder stated in an interview with Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). “A new generation has arrived. The two GOATs have made their way to the top. That opens up so many opportunities for so many players.”
Musiala, of course, is one of those players, as are talents like Jude Bellingham, who recently completed a move from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid, and Erling Haaland, who moved from Dortmund to Manchester City the previous summer.
Made in the Bundesliga is a common thread connecting these players, but unlike the other two, Bayern fans will hope Musiala stays in Germany. He’s already a crucial player for both club and country, and his last-gasp goal on the last matchday sealed Bayern’s eleventh consecutive league title in 2022/23.
Expect plenty more Musiala magic if he keeps up his present pace.
