Elland Road release fresh list of three-star players that really need to work this summer

Leeds United had a forgettable season in 2022/23, being relegated to the Championship, and will be eager to bounce back to the Premier League this summer.

Leeds have already seen changes behind the scenes this summer, with Nick Hammond joining as the new-look 49ers Enterprises hierarchy takes shape.

Despite the end of the 49ers Enterprises takeover, there is still much to be resolved, and there will be first-team departures this summer who will need to be replaced.

A number of players, though, will continue at Elland Road in the second division to assist the Whites achieve their aim of promotion at the first attempt.

We look at players who could stay and prove their worth to Leeds next season.

Bamford, Patrick

During the 2020/21 Premier League season, the 29-year-old scored 17 goals. Since then, he has appeared in only 42 games over the last two years, scoring eight times.

When the striker was last at this level, he scored 16 goals and assisted on four more in 45 Championship games.

Daniel James

The winger was loaned to Fulham last season after Leeds judged him surplus to requirements following a disappointing start to his career at Elland Road. His career needs to get back on track right away, and next season could be the time.

James has four goals and five assists in 40 games for Leeds so far. He has also had varied results for the numerous Premier League sides for which he has played.

George Rutter

Rutter has had a difficult time with Leeds United since his club-record signing in January. Since signing from Hoffenheim, the 21-year-old has scored 0 goals and produced only one assist in 13 appearances. The forward made three starts for the Whites.

Leeds paid a reputed £36 million for Rutter, according to Sky Sports, and need the attacker to start paying off that investment to help propel them back to the top flight.
