The amount Tottenham will be paying for the 23-year-old defender has been confirmed

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Sporting Lisbon will pay a price of £38.6 million to make Pedro Porro’s move permanent.

Spurs signed Porro on a loan deal with the option to make the move permanent in the summer during the January transfer window.

The Spaniard has had a difficult first six months in North London, having played under three different managers in Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini, and Ryan Mason, and will now play under Ange Postecoglou, his fourth.

Although there have been concerns about Porro’s defence, the 23-year-old has shown glimpses of his tremendous quality moving forward, scoring three times and assisting three times in 15 Premier League outings so far (Transfermarkt).

Sporting have now stated that they will get €40 million (£34.2 million) from Tottenham for the right-back, in addition to the €5 million (£4.2 million) loan fee they paid in January, bringing the total cost of the operation to £38.4 million.

“Sporting SAD reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the temporary transfer of player Pedro Porro, until the end of the season 2022/2023, for the sum of 5 million euros,” their announcement stated (as supplied by Football.London).

“The agreement includes the option to permanently acquire the player’s sporting rights for 40 million euros, which can be exercised by Tottenham or Sporting with effect from July 1st, 2023, and the player’s subsequent definitive assignment to Tottenham.”

“The value of the solidarity mechanism due to third-party clubs will be supported by approximately 95% of Tottenham.”

Ryan Mason devised a novel way to maximize Porro’s offensive abilities while decreasing his defensive requirements by deploying a formation that switched from a back five to a back four in possession.

I don’t anticipate Postecoglou to go from his tried-and-true back four of inverted full-backs, which Porro does not naturally fit into.

So it will be intriguing to see how the 23-year-old is used by the Australian.
