At the City Ground, Nottingham Forest defeated Aston Villa 2-0 thanks to goals from Ola Aina and Orel Mangala, ending their six-match losing streak.
After just five minutes of play, the hosts took the lead. It was the ideal start. Prior to Aina giving the Reds the lead, Nicolas Dominguez had already missed with a shot. After a powerful run down the left by Anthony Elanga, Harry Toffolo set up the full-back for a fantastic finish.
As the first half went on, Forest kept finding themselves in some favorable positions, but they were unable to take full advantage of them. And to keep them ahead, they required a strong save from rookie Odysseas Vlachodimos to deny Nicolo Zanilo. Just before the half, Dominguez had a fantastic opportunity to make it 2-0, but he was unable to find the goal after Aina cut back.
Mangala had no such trouble barely a minute after the interval, though. Set up by Toffolo, he drove home to double the Reds’ lead.
