Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou eyeing Celtic reunion to replace injured Ivan Perisic

According to rumors, Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou is considering a surprise reunion with former Celtic winger Jota following his catastrophic term in Saudi Arabia. After losing Ivan Perisic to a long-term injury, the Lilywhites are looking for striking reinforcements.

stated on Wednesday that Perisic would miss the rest of the season due to an ACL injury.

“We can confirm that Ivan Perisic has suffered a complex Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee,” the club said in a statement.

“The experienced Croatia international was injured during non-contact training and will have surgery.”

“Ivan will then begin his rehabilitation with our medical staff and is expected to miss the rest of the season.”

Postecoglou supposedly wants to bring in a new forward and rekindle his friendship with Jota after their success at Celtic.

Last season, the 24-year-old winger has 11 goals and 11 assists in the Scottish Premiership, helping Postecoglou lead Celtic to a domestic treble.

In July, he unexpectedly left Celtic Park to join the Saudi revolution, sealing a £25 million deal to Al-Ittihad.

However, Jota was left out of Nuno Espirito Santo’s Saudi Pro League team, which could only feature eight of Al-Ittihad’s nine foreign recruits.

It has rendered the Portuguese star ineligible for league matches, limiting him to AFC Champions League and Club World Cup appearances.

Naturally dissatisfied, Jota has reportedly requested that his contract be terminated so that he can continue his club career with regular play somewhere.

Espirito Santo has turned down his requests, seeing him as a long-term recruit. However, if tensions develop while he’s forced to watch from the wings, the likelihood of a winter transfer increases.

Postecoglou has other alternatives in the coming months as he attempts to return Tottenham Hotspur to the Champions League by finishing in the top four.

In the early stages of the season, the 58-year-old’s favoured front three has been Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison.

Other choices are Brennan Johnson, Manor Solomon, Bryan Gil, and Alejo Veliz, with Spurs missing out on any European action.
