Nottingham Forest midfielder Gustavo Scarpa is unlikely to return to former club Palmeiras when the January transfer window opens, according to reports in Brazil.

It was suggested earlier this week that Palmeiras and fellow Brazilian club Flamengo were showing an interest in a potential move for the player in the winter window, despite him signing a season-long loan deal with Olympiacos in the summer.

Amid the links with a move back to Brazil, it has now been claimed that it is not likely. UOL journalist Flavio Latif, as translated by Sport Witness reports that Palmeiras have no intention of signing the player at this moment in time.

During his time with the Brazilian club, the 29-year-old played a total of 211 times, scoring 37 goals and providing a further 51 assists. It was his performance in Brazil that prompted Forest to make a move, with the midfielder impressing with his first few cameo appearances for the club.

He will aim to rediscover his form for Olympiacos this season. Scarpa’s contract at the City Ground expires next summer, meaning that he will be available on a free transfer when his loan deal is over.
