Kudus scored his first goal for West Ham in their 3-1 comeback win over Backa Topola in the Europa League on Thursday [21 September].
The Irons scored a type of coup when they signed the Ghana international from Ajax for a whopping £38 million [Sky Sports, 28 August].
“During negotiations, Tim Steidten, their new technical director appointed earlier this summer, convinced the 23-year-old Ghana international he would develop into a key player for the east London club,” Thomas wrote for The Athletic [22 September].
“Kudus signed a five-year contract with the option of extending it for another season, with a salary that is significantly higher than his one in Amsterdam.”
Kudus was linked with a number of heavyweight teams around Europe after impressing for Ajax both domestically and in the Champions League.
West Ham’s board deserves a lot of credit for getting a deal done for the 23-year-old, who has everything he needs to become a fan favorite in East London.
Kudus, who scored in the Europa League in midweek, might be in David Moyes’ plans for his first Premier League start against Liverpool on Sunday [24 September] at Anfield.
With Moyes confirming that Jarrod Bowen is suffering from a sickness, the versatile offensive midfielder might give a surprise element of sorts against the Reds.
Now that he appears to have settled in, we can only hope for many more goals and assists from the £38 million man.
In unrelated West Ham United news, a player is about to leave the club.
