Scott McTominay should have left Manchester United without a doubt.
Many United fans remarked after Bayern Munich, “We miss Fred, we shouldn’t have sold Fred,” but Erik ten Hag told Fred, “You’re not in my plans.”
And Fred wanted to go play – he was ambitious.
Erik ten Hag told Scott McTominay, ‘You’re not in my plans,’ and McTominay elected to stay at Manchester United.
And I believe what we witnessed against Bayern and against Brighton was a guy who is not good enough and, for whatever reason, is not driven.
McTominay, according to Mark Goldbridge, is not good enough for Manchester United.
Coming in for 25 minutes and not tracking back is horrible, especially for a player who gets by on enthusiasm and vibes – he’s not that gifted, in my opinion.
People overestimate his ability to play for Scotland, but international football isn’t that excellent. It’s slower and less technical.
And the most humiliating thing for me is that Manchester United turned down a £30 million offer from West Ham.
If I were a West Ham fan, I’d be thinking, ‘Wow, we definitely got away with that,’ because I’m not sure how Man United thought McTominay was worth more than £30 million.
Fulham reportedly wanted him, but I guarantee we won’t get anywhere near that if he leaves in January or next summer.
He’s a bench player at best, and with guys like Kobbie Mainoo, Sofyan Amrabat, and Mason Mount on the way, he’ll wind up in a position similar to Harry Maguire’s, where he relies on injuries to obtain playing time.
