Tommy Doyle has shared what he believes is his best position, after signing for the club from Manchester City.
The 21-year-old arrived on deadline day at Molineux.
He was one of two late additions for Wolves, the other being Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
Doyle has joined on a loan basis, but Wolves will have the option to buy him for around £4.3 million next summer.
Wolves had been interested in Doyle earlier in the summer.
And when Matheus Nunes piqued City’s interest, Wolves decided to make a play for Doyle, although the two deals were ultimately seperate from one another.
Doyle is a midfielder and fans are looking forward to seeing what he can bring – but what exactly is his best position?
During his short career so far he has played in a variety of roles in midfield, across spells with City, Hamburg, Cardiff City and Sheffield United.
But asked what his preferred role in midfield is, Doyle said: “I’ve always been a midfielder. When I was younger I was a holding midfielder. And then I got to about 15 and then at the City academy they pushed me a little bit higher, into the eight and 10, to learn those roles too. I’ve kind of gone into between the two. I’ve been fortunate in that sense that I understand all of the midfield roles, which obviously helps you in this game.
“I think holding (is my favourite). When I can get on the ball and try and dictate the game and bring an intensity, but also bring a calmness too.
“Also I think as a holding midfielder you can contribute in some ways to a few assist and goals whenever you can, which is a lot of fun.”
Doyle speaks very well
So Doyle prefers to play as a holding midfielder, which is interesting because we have been seeing the likes of Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes playing there in recent times, with both really impressing.
There is also Bellegarde now, as well as Joe Hodge and Boubacar Traore, so Doyle has plenty of competition to get into the midfield and into his favoured holding role.
But you get the feeling with Doyle that he’ll work his socks off to do that.
