Wolves have reportedly been watching Argentine starlet Valentin Barco in recent weeks.
The transfer window may now be closed. But that has not stopped there being speculation about new players coming into the club.
Wolves brought in six new players in the summer window, after losing a number of high profile names.
Tom King, Matt Doherty, Enso Gonzalez, Santiago Bueno, Tommy Doyle and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde are all looking to make their mark at Molineux.
So far, Doyle and Bellegarde are the only new faces to make their debuts, with the latter really catching the eye in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.
Wolves are seemingly already looking at how they can strengthen the squad – and apparently teenager Barco is a player on the club’s radar…
Wolves have been watching Boca Juniors starlet Valentin Barco
90min reported yesterday that
Wolves are one of several clubs that have been watching Barco, 19, in recent weeks.
His club Boca Juniors are hoping to tie him down to a new contract.
But this could be difficult due to the high level of interest in the player and therefore the potential for his head to be turned.
Currently, he has a release clause of £8 million. Boca are looking to agree a new deal with Barco to try and get that removed.
90min actually name as many as 15 clubs who are attentive to Barco at the moment. From the Premier League, Wolves, Brighton, Newcastle United, Brentford, Chelsea, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest are all apparently keen.
They state that Brighton are actually currently in pole position to land the left-back.
Brighton, of course, have had big success raiding the South American market in recent times, and just signing up young talent in general.
It is suggested by The Guardian that Barco is a very attack minded left-back, who also takes a mean free-kick.
Wolves up against it to land Barco
So Wolves are apparently looking at Barco.
It feels pretty unlikely that he will make a move to Molineux.
While Wolves have made a conscious effort to dip into the South American market in recent times with the additions of Joao Gomes and Enso Gonzalez, Barco is seemingly very highly coveted.
If there are 15 other teams looking at him, then the chances of Wolves getting this ‘exceptional’ talent are surely slim.
And actually, Wolves do actually have two promising young players vying for minutes at left-back in Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno.
It would be strange for the club to try and target a third young left-back – surely someone with more experience would be required.
