Malcolm Brogdon would be as good as gone from the Boston Celtics “if resentment lingers” between the reigning Sixth Man of the Year and the franchise after the front office’s failed attempt to flip the former Virginia Cavalier for Kristaps Porzingis; before Marcus Smart ended up becoming the departing trade piece needed to get the deal done.
“After finally moving Marcus Smart, Boston has paired down their point guard rotation to Derrick White and Brogdon,” HoopsHabit’s Cal Durrett prefaced before saying, “But if his resentment lingers, perhaps the Celtics will be open to trading him later. Even then, it shouldn’t affect his play next season, though there is still some concern about the injury that resulted in him failing his physical with the Clippers.” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla commented on July 26 that there was a “healing process” needed between Brogdon and Boston.
“There is a healing process, there is a listening process and to see where we are at and where we have to get to,” Mazzulla said. “We’ve had some conversations as an organization but at the same time, we understand that’s the situation that it was and as the healing process goes on, we will move forward as well as you can.”

Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe, while appearing on The Celtics Beat podcast, sent a downright horrifying message on how Brogdon could choose to handle the healing process of his near-trade from the Boston Celtics.
“We’ll see how Malcolm (Brogdon) is,” Washburn prefaced before saying, “Malcolm’s the one I’m concerned about too, because we’ve heard nothing, and he’s angry with the team. I don’t think communication between the two sides has been fruitful. He might just say, ‘Listen, I’m not getting surgery. I’m just gonna let this heal, and you’ll have to wait for me.’ It could be a protest for being on the trade block.”
