Sad news with what Daniel Farke has said about each of Leeds United’s summer signings last night

Leeds United had to work right up to – and even past – the transfer deadline earlier this month to bring in their nine new faces that manager Daniel Farke hopes will inspire a promotion push.

Almost all areas of the pitch were strengthened as the club moved to replace some of the many players who abandoned ship following Leeds United’s relegation from the Premier League last season and it is fair to say Farke appears to be pleased with his new arrivals.

Here is a look at Farke’s early verdicts on each of the new signings and what he is expecting from them this season…

Speaking after the pre-seaosn friendly against Monaco, Farke said: “I’m pretty pleased with the signing of Ethan Ampadu.

“I think today he has showed some glimpses and in the many periods why wanted him so much. He’s a young player with much potential, also more to come, but already an experienced player so he was quite crucial in the first half.”

Karl Darlow

Darlow was Leeds’ second summer arrival and meant that Farke was pleased with his options between the sticks.

“I’m unbelievably happy with my goalkeepers,” Farke said following Dalrow’s signing. “I would say this is an area where we are more or less done and everything is sorted because I think Illan is a fantastic goalkeeper. He’s proved this through pre-season and also in the first game.

Sam Byram

Farke goes way back with Sam Byram after the pair worked together at Norwich City. Here’s what the boss had to say during pre-season as the club were mulling a permanent contract for the Thorp Arch graduate: “Sam has shown great attitude, experienced player, homegrown player, free agent, so then I don’t find many, many arguments against them.

Joel Piroe

Dutch striker Piroe was Leeds’ big statement signing of the summer and Farke was delighted to land him.

“I think his statistics speak for themselves, he’s an unbelievable quality player who is capable of delivering end products,” said the German. “He has got more than 20 goals last season also in the season before. He delivered many assists, also really good teammate so we made sure that we got a really humble and hardworking character and also many technical skills.

Joe Rodon

Here is Farke’s assessment of Rodon after he made his Whites debut against West Brom.

“I think he was quite impressive and we had time to speak and work with him, also individually on our tactical approach. We got the feeling he was prepared and we don’t have to speak about his quality, he knows this league inside out, he was rock solid when he played in this league and that was the reason Tottenham spent so much money on him.

Djed Spence

Again, Farke was pleased to land another Premier League talent in Spence.

“Obviously we spoke about that you want to strengthen our full-back options a little bit and I think a brilliant piece of business was Spence, he has proved, especially on this level, that can be outstanding. Pretty happy that we’re able to bring him in.”

Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev

Central midfielders Kamara and Gruev arrived at the club on the same day, with Farke running the rule over the pair prior to the draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

“I think it was necessary to bring players in on this position and I’m pretty pleased with Ilia and also Glen because we got players was real quality, so good on the ball but also with experience,” he said.

Jaidon Anthony

Bournemouth winger Anthony was the final signing of the window, arriving on deadline day in a last-gasp loan swap with Luis Sinisterra.

“I think with Jaidon Anthony I think we found the best possible option because he’s a proven Championship player, he’s delivered with many good performances for Bournemouth on this level,” Farke said. “He has started the first games on Premier League level and has played so many games in Premier League level, brilliant lad, also really desperate to be here. He’s still an age where he can improve.
