Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Marc Guehi this summer, but Crystal Palace’s demands may be difficult to meet.
The North Londoners are close to signing Empoli midfielder Guglielmo Vicario. He is a good signing in goal, but he requires good players in front of him to function well.
Tottenham is looking for new center-backs, and Guehi is an excellent choice. Dean Jones, on the other hand, has reported on GiveMeSport that Spurs may be unable to finance him this summer.
Marc Guehi has matured into an excellent defender for Crystal Palace, and it’s no surprise that Tottenham is interested in signing him this summer.
The Englishman, who is still only 22 years old, has been outstanding over the last two seasons. His performances have won him a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad as well, and he will only improve in the coming years.
Crystal Palace understands how good Guehi is, which is why they will do all in their power to keep him. If they must sell him, it will be for a large sum of money.
Jones believes the Eagles’ asking price is too much for the Spurs right now.
“The case at the heart of their defense,” he explained, “where sources believe the chances of landing Marc Guehi currently look slim.”
“Latest news out of the club is that a move for Guehi is likely to hit the bumpers as they are going to struggle to meet the demands of Crystal Palace. A deal to land him is expected to exceed £50 million, sources say, and that is likely to prove beyond Spurs at this moment.
“They have had a keen interest in the 22-year-old England International, who spent time with Chelsea earlier in his career as a youth player.”
Over £50 million for a 22-year-old defender like Guehi may appear exorbitant, but that is the market these days, and we believe he is worth it.
Tottenham cannot afford to sign talented English players for peanuts any more. They will have to spend a lot of money, but if they get it right, the returns would be enormous – just look at what Arsenal achieved with Ben White.
Guehi is a ‘great’ defender, an England international with Premier League experience, and he’s only 22 years old, so he’ll only get better in the future years.
If Daniel Levy is serious about improving his team’s defense, the Crystal Palace player is a terrific choice, despite the fact that he will cost a fortune.
