Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set to remain a Tottenham player until January after late-window interest in his services failed to materialise, sources have told Football Insider.

And Spurs have blocked the possibility of Hojbjerg, 28, leaving for Turkey or Saudi Arabia in an out-of-window deal despite allowing Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele to move to Galatasaray.

The transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia are open until 15 September and 7 September respectively.

The midfielder was the subject of late-window interest from Premier League outfit Fulham last week but was not willing to join the Cottagers.

Marco Silva’s side moved for the ex-Southampton star as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha, who looked primed to join Bayern Munich.

Atletico Madrid also made a late approach for Hojbjerg after a long-held interest, but were only willing to take him on loan – something Spurs weren’t willing to sanction.

It is believed a move in the January window is now by far the most likely outcome for the midfielder, who is no longer part of Tottenham’s full-strength first eleven.

Ange Postecoglou has preferred to use Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in the midfield, while Rodrigo Bentancur is set to return from a long-term injury in the coming months.

Nevertheless, Hojbjerg has made three substitute appearances and was named in the starting lineup for the League Cup loss against Fulham last week.

It is believed an out-of-window exit would leave Spurs short in midfield with Bentancur still yet to return to fitness.

The 28-year-old has racked up 149 appearances for Spurs since joining from Southampton in 2020 – notching 10 goals and 16 assists.
