49ers fully ready to sign off on Helder Costa deal at Leeds United

Leeds United owners, the 49ers Enterprises, are running out of time to offload Helder Costa as the days tick down before the transfer window closes in Saudi Arabia.

Costa has yet to feature in a matchday squad for the Whites this season and manager Daniel Farke has made clear he is not part of his future plans.

As The Athletic’s Phil Hay rather bluntly put it on 18 August when Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto’s names were dominating the gossip columns, “nobody is bothered about Costa” at Elland Road, despite Saudi interest.

While Leeds want Costa to move on and the player himself is eager to find a new club, there are now only a few days remaining for Saudi clubs to get deals over the line before the now-confirmed deadline on Thursday [7 September].

Turkish clubs have an additional week to conduct business, for what it is worth, but Saudi Arabia has always appeared the most likely destination for the Angola international, as again reported by Hay last month.

It is a rather sad state of affairs when you consider Leeds paid a reported £16million for Costa in July 2020, having spent the previous campaign on loan at Elland Road.

In the time since making his move permanent, the 29-year-old has made just 25 appearances for United and scored only three goals, with the past two campaigns being spent out on loan.

Costa remaining in West Yorkshire beyond the close of the foreign transfer windows is simply not an option at this point, but hopefully, the wheels are in motion to agree a move to the Middle East in the coming days.

Only then can the door finally be shut on a Leeds career to forget.

In other Leeds United news, Farke has offered words of advice to a player after his recent struggles.
