Leeds United set to sign six free agents including vastly experienced 56-goal Championship scorer

As is always the case each summer, the closure of the transfer window doesn’t mean that has to be the end of any business Leeds United do as the club look to rebuild the squad under Daniel Farke. While football clubs can no longer sign any players from fellow clubs across the continent, you can still sign players who are no longer under contract anywhere.

And just like recent years, there are some talented and high profile players out there without a deal looking to find a new club. Many will be out of Leeds’ reach simply because of the wage demands that they may carry, even though they don’t have a club to play at, but there are some who would fit the bill perfectly.

We’ve taken a look at some of the players who are up for grabs currently, even adding a few who may be out of reach but are worth noting anyway.

Andre Gray

Leeds have already added strike power in a proven Championship goalscorer by signing Joel Piroe, but how about further firepower in the form of former Watford striker Andre Gray. Now aged 32, Gray is out of contract after terminating his deal at Aris Thessaloniki by mutual consent.

A player who boasts a strike return of 56 goals in 146 Championship appearances, he’s surely going to be on the radar of a number of Championship teams this week.

Alfredo Morelos

Another player with the sort of experience and goalscoring record that will attract attention is former Rangers star Morelos. The 27-year-old looked set to join Fenerbahce before the window close, but that deal failed to materialise. Morelos scored 124 times for the Glasgow giants.

Jesse Lingard

The ex-Manchester United and England star looked all set to link up with Wayne Rooney at his DC United team, only to see MLS salary cap issues prevent a deal from getting done. It’s ;eft Lingard without a club after he was released by Nottingham Forest last season.

Axel Tuanzebe

Another former Manchester United player, the 25-year-old would be a solid defensive addition for Leeds and boasts Championship experience aft6er his time at Stoke City. Still without a club, he’s been linked to a number of Championship teams.

Danny Rose

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke made it clear ahead of deadline day that he was happy with the club’s left-back options and that they would soon have Junior Firpo and Sam Byram back from injury to give the club the cover they needed. Still, how about throwing another option into the mix in the form of ex-Tottenham Hotspur star Rose. The 33-year-old has been without a club since Watford let him go last year but he has been hinting about a possible return to action.

Jerome Boateng

If Leeds are unlikely to make a move for Rose, you can file a deal for Boateng in the same “very doubtful’ category, still the vastly experienced defender is available and looking for a club.
