Villarreal considering a move to sign Barcelona unshakeable defender after deadline emerges

Barcelona have been in advanced talks with LAFC to sign centre-back Mamadou Fall from LAFC, according to The Athletic.

Both clubs are in negotiations over a loan deal with a purchase option by the end of the 2023-24 LaLiga season, but it has been understood that an agreement has yet to be reached ahead of the end of the Spanish transfer window on Friday night.

Villarreal have also registered their interest in Fall, who spent last year on loan with the club’s second team.

The 20-year-old played 25 games for the Yellow Submarine’s B team and even made one LaLiga appearance before returning to America this summer.

The Senegalese defender is among the most highly-rated young talents in MLS and has made 42 appearances for LAFC since joining the club in 2021.

He has been in action for the California-based outfit three times since returning from his most recent loan spell in Europe.

LAFC currently ranks second in the Western Conference with 40 points collected from 25 matches played. They won their first MLS Cup and MLS Supporters Shield last season.

Earlier this year, Barcelona raided another MLS player: Julian Araujo.

Barcelona signed Julian Araujo from LA Galaxy in Feb. before loaning him out to Las Palmas

The Mexican right-back moved to Spain in February after being in limbo for over two weeks due to an 18-second delay that took the transfer past the January transfer window deadline.

The 22-year-old played four years in the US with LA Galaxy before sealing a move to Camp Nou for $4million (£3M).

Araujo joined Las Palmas on loan on August 1.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have agreed to sign French centre-back Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona as they turn to former Tottenham defender to replace Tyrone Mings after the latter suffered a horrific injury against Newcastle earlier this month.
