Shocking as Nottingham Forest missing out £2.6m bargain as electrifying striker makes call

Nottingham Forest are set to miss out on a £2.6 million deal for Adama Bojang, with the prolific Gambian striker apparently preferring a transfer to the Bundesliga over the Premier League.

Newcastle United completed the signing of Yankuba Minteh from Odense last week. Southampton are reportedly monitoring Dembo Saidykhan.

As a result, Adama Bojang, one of African football’s best young strikers, has a very genuine possibility of becoming one of three rising Gambian stars to touch down in English football before September 1st.

According to the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest scouted Bojang during the U20 African Cup of Nations earlier this year. Bojang scored four goals before Gambia was defeated in the final by Senegal.

Manchester United, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wolves are also interested. In summary, if you’re a Premier League scout, there’s a good chance you’ve noticed Bojang in the last six months.

Meanwhile, the Guardian feels that a bid of £2.6 million will suffice. Bojang, 19, is presently playing for Steve Biko FC, a Gambian club named after the South African civil rights activist Steve Biko.

With such a low sum, the potential rewards if Bojang lives up to his enormous potential in England far outweigh the dangers of bringing him here. Meanwhile, the teenager may believe that first-team football would be easier to come by at Nottingham Forest than, say, Liverpool, Chelsea, or Manchester United.

“I’m aware of the news (rumours).” And I’m looking forward to that,” Bojang told BBC Sport Africa in the spring.

“It helps my morale.” I’m concentrating more on (gaining) consistency, which is quite motivating since having such clubs following you is a fantastic feeling. Consistency will make them more eager to sign me.”

Bojang, who stands at 6ft 3ins, models his game on arguably the greatest goalscorer of the modern era.

“I want to be like Cristiano Ronaldo,” he continues. “Because he’s my favorite among the big-name players.”

“I’ve been watching his YouTube videos after games. He posts his workouts online, so I occasionally try to watch them to push myself.”

The bad news for Nottingham Forest is that Bojang is apparently considering relocating to Germany (The Guardian). Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig have been discussed. And both clubs have a proven track record of launching young attackers to fame, as evidenced by Christopher Nkunku, Timo Werner, Randal Kolo Muani, Sebastien Haller, and Luka Jovic.

3/10 rumour rating With so much competition with Bojang vying for a place in the Bundesliga, Nottingham Forest’s hopes look slim.
