Nottingham Forest can confirm the permanent transfer of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 22-year-old’s departure brings an end to his 14-year association with the club, having joined the Forest Academy at the age of eight.

Johnson departs having made 108 senior appearances for Forest, scoring 29 goals.

The forward made his first-team debut for Forest against West Bromwich Albion in August 2019 and two years later, following an impressive loan spell with Lincoln City in Sky Bet League One, he scored his first professional goal for Forest in a 1-1 draw against Derby County at Pride Park.

Johnson went on to play an influential role in Forest’s promotion to the Premier League that season, scoring 16 goals in the regular Sky Bet Championship season before netting in both legs of the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United.

Johnson was subsequently named the Championship Young Player of the Season, and was also named in the Championship Team of the Season as a result of his impressive form.

The Wales international scored 10 goals in 44 games across all competitions last season, with eight of those goals coming in 38 Premier League outings, and departs having started in each of Forest’s opening three league games this season.

Nottingham Forest Head Coach, Steve Cooper said: “Whilst we’re obviously going to miss Brennan and the memories he’s given so many of us when he’s lit up The City Ground on the right wing, we’re extremely proud of him and we’re pleased that he’s got this move as he enters the next stage in his career.

“Everyone knows how great he is on the pitch, but what many people don’t see is the kind, humble and genuine young man he is off it.  He was always learning, always showed great humility and had a superb nature in the way he interacted with his teammates and staff.

“All credit must go to his family especially his mum and dad, Alison and David, who should be so proud of the incredible young man they have raised.

“He will be missed by everyone, but he will always be a Red.”

Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Brennan for his immense contribution during his time with the club and wishes him every success for the future.
