Aston Villa facing a transfer war with Leeds United and Unai Emery may want a reunion

The Premier League transfer window opened last week, and Aston Villa are already making moves.

Unai Emery will compete with the “big six” to qualify for European football for the second season in a row next season, and he made his first signing, Youri Tielemans, earlier this month. This summer, Villa hopes to add more high-quality players to his roster.

Brighton are considering making a bid for Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams, who has been linked with Villa. The USA international is one of the high-profile players set to leave Elland Road following the club’s relegation to the Championship. Villa, along with Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Everton, are thought to be following the player’s position.

According to the Daily Mail, the Seagulls are the most recent club to express an interest. Brighton are said to be “weighing up” a £25 million move for Adams, amid reports that his contract includes a relegation release clause. The midfielder has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Moises Caicedo, who has been linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea. Villa, Everton, and Forest, on the other hand, have made inquiries.

Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena is a target for Villa, but he won’t be cheap this summer. In January, the 21-year-old committed his future to the Yellows by signing a contract extension until 2028, which removed the €25 million release clause from his previous contract.

His new buy-out price is estimated to be in the region of £50 million, and he has attracted interest from teams throughout Europe, including Barcelona, although it is unknown whether Villa will explore a move for him this summer. Baena made his Villarreal debut in July 2020, although he needed a loan move to Girona in 2021/22 to adjust to first-team football because he was still a youngster at the time Emery began working with him. He appeared 38 times for Girona in La Liga 2, creating five assists and scoring five goals as the club was promoted back to Spain’s top division.

Ibrahima Bamba of Vitoria Guimaraes is close to joining Qatari club Al Duhail after being linked with Villa. The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in Portuguese football, and Villa had been looking for a move this summer.

The interest comes just days after Villa established a collaboration with the Portuguese club, with V Sports paying £4.9 million for a 46% stake in Vitoria shares. He now appears to be ready to sign with the Doha-based side. Despite Bamba’s €30 million (£26.7 million) release clause, Al Duhail will pay €10 million for his services. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, despite linked to Villa, he opted a move to Al Duhail and a €10 million cost has been agreed upon between the two teams. The transaction could be completed this week.
