Newcastle plotting a late move to sign 22-year-old Bradford target this summer

Newcastle United could ‘revisit’ their interest in Portugal star Goncalo Inacio if they receive bad news on an injury suffered by defender Sven Botman.

The Dutch centre-back hobbled out of Sunday’s defeat against Liverpool after falling awkwardly following an aerial challenge in the Reds area. The Magpies are awaiting news on the severity of the injury and could be forced into an unplanned move into the transfer market ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Speaking to NUFCTV after the game, United manager Howe explained the situation, saying: “It looks like an ankle problem. I don’t know what the damage is or how he’s sustained it…He was walking with the aid of somebody, so it doesn’t look good, but fingers crossed it settles down quickly.”

Football Transfers have now claimed United could make a move for Sporting CP defender Inacio after initially considering a move for the talented 22-year-old earlier in the summer. Inacio is not the only Portuguese-based star under consideration with United said to ‘greatly admire’ Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva – although a reported price tag of around £80million could mean he remains out of reach.

Former Magpies academy star earns League Two move

Former Newcastle United youngster Adam Wilson has signed a three-year deal at League Two club Bradford City.

The talented winger was released alongside the likes of Mo Sangare and Tom Allan last summer and trained with a number of North East non-league clubs before joining Welsh side The New Saints.

Wilson enjoyed a productive year in Wales as he helped his side complete a league and cup double, picking up their player of the season in the process. His form attracted interest from elsewhere and the 23-year-old has now put pen-to-paper on a deal with Bradford to become Mark Hughes’ eighth signing of the summer.

After his signing was confirmed, Wilson said: “This is a big club that should be a lot higher up in the leagues, with a great manager and fanbase, so it was difficult to say no. I love playing in front of big crowds. I did it a few times at Newcastle, and it really gets your adrenaline going.”
