Fans in tears as Brennan Johnson sent his friends message on Instagram about Tottenham move

Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson has reportedly informed friends that he would like a move to Tottenham Hotspur in this summer’s transfer window.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign in the Premier League for the Tricky Trees in 2022-23, scoring eight goals and bagging three assists as Steve Cooper’s men avoided an immediate return to the Football League.

Johnson was an essential part of the Forest side who managed to earn top-flight football for the first time in two decades, providing 26 goal contributions in the 2021-22 second-tier season.

The former Lincoln City man has also cemented himself as one of his nation’s most important players over the past few years, having featured 20 times for Wales since making his debut in August 2020.

According to Football Insider, Johnson has told his friends that he would prefer a move to Tottenham over any other club in the closing stages of the transfer window.

The report claims that the Welshman is attracted to the possibility of joining Spurs, with the attacker believing that he would be handed enough game time to continue showing off his talents.

It is understood that Chelsea and West Ham United are also interested in the services of Johnson, meaning Ange Postecoglou’s men face a battle to secure the services of the player.

However, with Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues having already recruited an array of attacking talent this summer, it is said that the Forest forward is currently favouring a switch to North London.

The Blues are understood to be exploring options of how they could convince Forest to sell the attacker, with the West Londoners supposedly considering using Andrey Santos as part of the deal.

Spurs have reportedly been in discussions with the East Midlands outfit over a potential deal for Johnson, however the Lilywhites’ valuation of the player is said to be lower than Forest’s asking price of over £45m.

It is believed that Spurs are unwilling to fork out close to £50m in cash for the Welshman, although Postecoglou’s men could send Davidson Sanchez to the City Ground as an alternative form of payment.

Since Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich earlier in the window, Brazil international Richarlison has been tasked with leading the Tottenham line at the beginning of this Premier League campaign.

Supporters inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were treated to a promising display against Manchester United last weekend, with a goal from Pape Sarr – alongside an own-goal by Lisandro Martinez – helping Spurs to a 2-0 victory.

Dejan Kulusevski made his temporary switch from Juventus permanent earlier in the summer, but the Swede could be set to face competition for a place on the right flank should Johnson complete a move from Forest.
