Leeds are now in advanced talks to sign £10.5m attacker after Southampton snub – Sky Sports

Leeds United are in advanced talks over the signing of Genk attacker Joseph Paintsil.

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, who claims a deal is set to be worth around £8.5 million with personal terms not expected to be a problem.

Southampton had also been interested in landing Paintsil but failed in their approach as they attempted a swap deal that also involved Paul Onuachu.

However, as per David Ornstein of the Athletic, that move has now fallen through with both players having rejected the proposal.

Paintsil could now be the next through the doors at Elland Road following the addition of Swansea City striker Joel Piroe on Thursday evening.

The 25-year-old would represent a significant coup for Leeds having scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in the Belgian league last season.

Daniel Farke will now have a plethora of attacking options at his disposal, particularly with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri also set to join.

Paintsil’s arrival would pose the question as to whether one of Leeds’ big attacking players will be headed for the exit door.

The Ghana international is primarily a winger and Farke already has Luis Sinisterra, Wilfried Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville, Dan James and more at his disposal.

Either way, Paintsil would be a very impressive addition for Leeds at this level.
