According to Times Journalist Tom Roddy, Tottenham is expected to submit an official bid for Brennan Johnson, potentially including Davinson Sanchez as part of the deal.
Chelsea has reportedly withdrawn its interest in Johnson, supposedly due to the player prioritizing a move to Tottenham.
That hasn’t stopped Chelsea before, but hopefully, the west London side’s interest in Johnson has indeed cooled.
With Chelsea seemingly out of the picture, Tottenham has a clear run at the 22-year-old. But it will cost Spurs a pretty penny to land the promising young offensive talent. Nottingham Forest wants £50 million for their highly prized possession.
Spurs want to lessen the financial blow by offering Sanchez as part of a swap deal. Even with the Colombian as a bargaining chip, it would still cost Spurs about £40 million.
There’s no way Tottenham will get more than £12 million for Sanchez. On the positive side, including Sanchez as part of a swap deal will trim at least 20 percent off the top.
We’ll see if Roddy is accurate with his assertion in the coming days. Unlike the purported Pepe bid, this prospective deal makes sense for both parties, so there’s a solid chance of a Tottenham bid forthcoming.
A £50 million bid (or £40 million plus Sanchez) will almost certainly be enough to persuade Nottingham Forest to sell Johnson. Forest has a lot of offensive depth and won’t be left short if he departs. It’s also a chunk of cash with which they can reinvest.
The young Englishman is also keen on a Tottenham move, making the negotiation process immeasurably easier.
Surely, it’s one or the other (Pepe or Johnson). Even with the Harry Kane proceeds (if not already spent), there’s more chance of humans colonizing Mars in my lifetime than Tottenham shelling out about £110 million on two forwards.
