Gary O’Neil yesterday gave an update on Daniel Podence, who was again not included in the Wolves squad.
Wanderers crashed to defeat again yesterday in the Premier League, losing 4-1 at home to Brighton.
Wolves had an OK first-half, but went in 1-0 down at the break as a result of a top-class Kaoru Mitoma goal.
An horrendous 10-minute spell for Wolves saw them conceded three goals.
It was a shocking capitulation, and a real disappointment to see, after the great performance on Monday against Manchester United.
there’s a lot of work to be done for Wolves in the next two weeks.
It remains to be seen how the squad will be looking when the transfer window closes.
And it is going to be very interesting to see if Podence will still be a Wolves player after that.
O’Neil was asked about him after yesterday’s game, and was fairly coy on the matter.
Gary O’Neil says Wolves are managing the Daniel Podence situation
Podence has not featured for Wolves now since the Premier League game with Everton on May 20.
He didn’t play at all in pre-season, with speculation rife about his future.
He was named on the bench by Julen Lopetegui for the pre-season game with Rennes, but did not play.
It’s a rather mysterious situation, and O’Neil didn’t give too much away yesterday. Clearly though, something is up.
He said (via Birmingham Mail): “We’re just managing Daniel’s situation as it moves. There’s no real comment on Daniel, it’s about the group that are here and want to push every day to put the club in a better place than it is, they’re the lads I want to talk about.”
Podence situation is strange
The Podence situation is a strange one.
At the moment, there are rumours that he could be leaving the club.
It’s thought Wolves would be willing to sell the player, and Celtic have apparently shown interest. It is thought Wolves value the player around £12 million.
But Fabio Silva has also been the subject of speculation that he could leave.
But the striker has been training and playing games for Wolves.
So it just makes you wonder if something might have happened behind the scenes.
It’s hardly surprising that O’Neil didn’t shed too much light on the situation though, given the struggles Wolves are having right now.
