Good news Newcastle’s new summer recruit believes he’s already in love with the club

Newcastle United handed Premier League debuts to two players on Saturday against Aston Villa and both left the field with a goal to their name.

It was a dream start to life at Newcastle United for Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes with the having just 22 minutes to show Eddie Howe why he should be in the starting lineup ahead of Anthony Gordon.

Gordon had a fantastic game for Newcastle grabbing an assist for Tonali’s opening goal, but in a much shorter spell on the pitch, Barnes matched Gordon’s assist and raised him a goal of his own giving Howe plenty to think about ahead of the game against Manchester City.

Harvey Barnes has settled into life at Newcastle

Speaking to The Shields Gazette, Barnes reflected on his start to life at Newcastle saying: “I’m loving it.

“The first week or so was hectic in getting everything sorted and going straight out to America and thrown into the deep end and straight into a game.

“But its sometimes better that way as you can interact with the lads, you have a week with them, and then you’re back. It has been great, I’ve moved up here, settled in really well and on and off the pitch it has been great. I’m really happy.”

The £39million signing from Leicester is living the dream at Newcastle so far and will be looking to ride that wave into Gareth Southgate‘s England plans, and hopefully, much like at his club, he’ll be fighting Anthony Gordon for that place.

Barnes also shared that he’s been working on his composure in front of goal telling The Shields Gazette what was going through his mind before he bagged his first competitive goal for the Magpies: “When I went through the second time, I thought ‘well I’ve already set him [Callum Wilson] up once’ and I back myself to score. It fell lovely for me when I went through.

Eddie Howe will probably name an unchanged side to face City

“That’s something that I’ve worked on in the last couple of seasons, my composure in-front of goal. When I’m in those positions, I back myself to score so thankfully I put it away and that really did just see the game off.”

As big of an impact as Barnes had on Saturday I expect that Eddie Howe will name the same starting eleven for Manchester City as he has shown that he likes to stick with a winning side when possible.

That doesn’t mean that Barnes won’t have some sort of impact though as you can almost guarantee he’ll make an appearance later in the game.
