ax KMilman was named new Wolverhampton Wanderers captain over the summer, following the departure of Ruben Neves.
Neves left the club to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal which was soon followed by the departure of previous captain Conor Coady who joined Leicester.
Kilman therefore was handpicked to be Wolves’ new leading man upon Gary O’Neill’s appointment
The talented defender also signed a new contract to remain at the Molineux until at least 2028, putting rumours of a Napoli swoop to bed.
The Englishman will lead out the team for the first time at the Molineux tomorrow since he was officially made captain.
Kilman on Ruben Neves departure
Ahead of him home bow as captain, Kilman has spoken with The Athletic about his new role at the club.
On being named captain following Neves, Kilman didn’t think he needed to make a big deal of it.
“When Ruben left, I didn’t feel I had to stamp my authority and say I wanted it said Kilman.
He continued to insist that in this role he will give his all and considers himself lucky to have this opportunity.
“I was chosen and I’m very privileged. Off the pitch, it brings more responsibility, but on the pitch, I’ll always do my best and show my leadership skills in my own way.
Rising to the occasion
Obviously with being named captain, comes the pressure of needing to lead from the front.
This is something Kilman has already done, playing a brilliant game at Old Trafford on Monday which unluckily resulted in a defeat.
Kilman’s calm and cool demeanour inspired confidence, which is a different captain profile to the likes of Neves and Coady.
But if Wolves play how they did against Manchester United all season, he could be among Wolves’ best captains.
