Newcastle appear to be moving fast in a bid to complete their fourth major signing this afternoon

Newcastle United appear to be moving fast in a bid to complete their fourth major signing of the summer, with speculation over Lewis Hall intensifying over the past 24 hours.

A once difficult deal started to sound like it was possible on Wednesday, with claims that Hall actually does want to leave Chelsea and sign for Newcastle.

Now a deal is reportedly close, with Eddie Howe seemingly set to get the left-back that he craves. It is another one for the future, with Hall just 18-year-old. But the potential is there for all to see, which is why the Magpies are likely going to pay a big fee.

But, like the Tino Livramento deal, Newcastle officials will feel like Hall is a worthwhile investment in the long run, as Toon officials continue to plan for the future.

Getting Hall from Chelsea will be quite the coup if we can pull this off, and a new report from the Athletic hints at why the youngster is interested in a move up north.

Toon fan Lewis Hall wants Champions League nights at Newcastle

According to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, Newcastle are working on a deal to sign Hall, who the reporter states is a Toon fan and is eager to leave Stamford Bridge permanently.

The report lists two reasons why Hall is believed to be keen on the move. One is to play regular first-team football under Howe, and the other is to join a club competing in the Champions League.

The second one sounds strange when you consider he would arrive from Chelsea, then you remember that the Blues did not qualify for Europe at all this season!

Combine those factors with the fact that Hall is a Newcastle fan and you can see why he fancies the move.

It will be another smart bit of business by the Magpies if a deal can be completed. It remains to be seen if it will be a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy, but the expectation is that Hall will at least cost Newcastle a lot of money.

Whether it is this summer or next, the Athletic state that Chelsea are looking for a fee in the region of £35million.
