Clinton Morrison has expressed astonishment that Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou did not put on Manor Solomon as the club chased a potential winner against Brentford on Sunday.
Morrison was speaking on BBC Radio Five Live as Spurs began their new season – and without Harry Kane – with a 2-2 draw against the Bees.
Tottenham fans have many reasons to be optimistic. Summer signing Manor Solomon, on the other hand, did not make his Premier League debut for the club.
Pundits are taken aback as Solomon is left on the Tottenham bench.
Along with Giovani Lo Celso and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, the Israeli international was an unused substitute.
Solomon is possibly the signing who has gone unnoticed in this window. He had previously impressed when on loan at Fulham. And getting a deal done without a typical transfer fee appears to be a huge coup for Tottenham.
Despite this, Postecoglou decided not to make more than three substitutes on Sunday, including sending Cristian Romero out when he suffered an early head injury.
And Morrison believed it was an error on the part of the Tottenham manager, as Spurs were hunting for a winner in the closing stages of the game.
“I’m surprised that Solomon hasn’t been brought on,” he said on BBC Radio Five Live.
“A new signing who prefers to operate in broad areas.”
“I expected them to bring on Solomon or Lo Celso to try to win the game.”
There was a lot to enjoy in Tottenham’s attacking style. Richarlison put in a lot of effort on the side. And, following his summer switch, James Maddison has made an immediate impression.
Ivan Perisic replaced Son Heung-min when Postecoglou decided to take him off. Because of his propensity to cut in from the left and make things happen, that could have been the time to turn to Solomon.
His chance will undoubtedly come at some point after his move. But he certainly has some work to do before he can start playing for his new team.
