Ange sent words to Tottenham fans giving an encouraging update on the club’s pursuit of former defender

According to sources from Spain, Tottenham Hotspur fans have received a hopeful update on their pursuit of former defender Clement Lenglet.

Who will the Spurs bring in?

The sale of star striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich for about €100 million (£86 million) plus an additional €20 million (£17.2 million) in prospective add-ons has boosted the north Londoners’ transfer fund.

Spurs’ loss of Kane to the Bundesliga is a huge blow because they now have to replace a 25-goal-per-season forward, but there are a few candidates they’ve been linked with.

Tottenham may also attempt to bolster other sections of the squad following the 30-year-old’s departure, with respected media sources such as The Times claiming the club might make up to three key signings before the transfer deadline.

The Lilywhites have already signed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, teenage centre-back Ashley Phillips, defender Micky van de Ven, playmaker James Maddison, winger Manor Solomon, and striker Alejo Veliz, but Spurs still have a lot of work to do.

Ange Postecoglou, the club’s manager, previously hinted at another centre-back move following the signing of van de Ven.

“It’s not done yet,” Postecoglou remarked last weekend.

“We need reinforcements in that central defensive area.” We require defenders who can work in an aggressive formation, defend effectively, and defend behind them. In the following days, we’ll be looking to bring in a couple in that area.”

Following that remark, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich later backtracked, stating that a new core defensive acquisition will be contingent on outgoings.

“We’ll see what happens with outgoings,” Postecoglou explained.

“However, there is the possibility of bringing in one more center after van de Ven.”

Spurs appear to have the funds to reinvest in a new defender now that Kane’s high-profile departure to Bayern Munich has been completed, with reports in Spain suggesting it may be Lenglet.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to north London several times this summer, but Sport reports that Barcelona hopes to “close the departure” of Lenglet to Spurs “very soon” after selling Kane.

Meanwhile, Lenglet “hopes for an agreement between the clubs.” Tottenham are hoping to sign a number of players before the transfer deadline, and the 28-year-old could be one of them.

The talks were halted due to a lack of financial agreement, but it looks that the move is back on track.

How talented is Clement Lenglet?

Lenglet averaged 87.5% passing accuracy out of the back for Spurs on loan last season (WhoScored), indicating he might fit in well with Postecoglou’s system.

Meanwhile, Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris considers himself to be a “high level” player.

“He’s a modern defender,” Lloris stated.

“It’s nice to be able to play from the back.” He possesses a tremendous left foot and can be quite strong in one-on-one situations as well as in the air.

“Even if it’s never easy to arrive in the Premier League, and he’ll have to adjust to the intensity of the games, he’s a high-level player with experience.”
