Tottenham is up against heavy competition to capture Manchester City center-back

Tottenham is interested in Manchester City center-back Aymeric Laporte, but Ange Postecoglou and company will face heavy competition.

The Spurs’ rumored interest in Laporte is understandable. He’s a high-profile center-back who fulfills all the boxes for Postecoglou’s 4-3-3 system.

Laporte is an excellent ball-moving, left-footed central defender. He is an excellent one-on-one defender with good initial acceleration, ideal characteristics for a berth in Postecoglou’s team’s spine.

He’d also compliment Cristian Romero, who has very different yet complementing qualities.

Laporte is rated at slightly over £25 million on Transfermarkt, but a potential bidder may have to pay more than £30 million to secure his services.

Even his weekly wage of £120,000 makes him a desirable target for Spurs.

Barcelona, on the other hand, is desperate for a center-back with the Spaniard’s skill set.

Xavi was forced to use former Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso as a makeshift center-back for a brief while since he was short on marshals.

That’s a terrifying possibility, especially for a squad like Barcelona.

Worse, Laporte is thought to prefer relocating abroad, notably to his native France. And this is usually the most important factor in determining where a transfer target ends up.

For Spurs, there is a silver lining.

The Catalan giants are in financial difficulties, which might derail the proposed deal. However, Barcelona frequently obtains monies from someplace, possibly beneath the mattresses of more notable club members.

Fabrizio Romano, the main transfer scout on campus, has remained silent on any potential Laporte deal, so for the time being, hope dominates the north London air.
