According to Football Insider, Brighton have rejected a second bid from Legia Warsaw for defender James Furlong.

Legia are interested in signing the Irishman, 21, who is open to leaving Brighton in quest of regular first-team play.

Furlong is well-liked at Brighton, where he signed a new contract earlier this summer.

The left-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Motherwell, and a number of League One clubs in England have indicated an interest in signing him this summer.

Furlong made 16 appearances for Motherwell last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Prior to that, he was a fixture for Brighton’s Under-21 side in Premier League 2 competition, and he has made 75 appearances for the Seagulls’ minor sides in all.

Furlong was also named to the bench for a Premier League home match against Chelsea last season, and made his League Cup debut with a five-minute cameo against Forest Green.

Last month, the 21-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 international signed a contract extension until 2025.

Furlong will be looking to become the latest young Brighton player to break into the first team, but he will be up against the excellent Pervis Estupinian.

Evan Ferguson, who came over to the club from Ireland under similar circumstances to Furlong, has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising players.

On August 12, Brighton will kick up their Premier League campaign against Luton Town.

In other reports, Brighton is refusing to release three of their best players following the Mitoma and Caicedo upgrades.
