Dr Rajpal Brar alleges that Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow will undergo a strength and fitness medical before joining Leeds United.
The injury expert has gone over the specifics of a goalie medical, as the 32-year-old will have to go through one before being revealed as a new signing.
On July 27, Fabrizio Romano wrote that the Englishman would have his physical on Thursday before officially joining Leeds.
Darlow will be Leeds’ second signing this summer, following Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea.
Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, told MOT Leeds News exclusively, “The big difference in his medical will be in the strength and conditioning program as a keeper has different physical and mental demands than other players.”
“Apart from that, the medical for a goalkeeper will be very similar to other positional players at baseline.“
Darlow’s arrival casts immediate question on the future of Elland Road’s Illan Meslier, who has struggled in recent months.
The Frenchman, 23, committed a series of mistakes near the end of the 2022/23 season and was eventually replaced by Joel Robles.
Meslier remains the club’s first choice, despite the fact that the Spaniard left when his contract expired.
However, with Darlow approaching and unlikely to settle for second fiddle, the Whites may decide to loan out or sell the French goalie if a decent deal can be found.
