Nottingham Forest stepping ahead of Premier League outfit in advanced talk to sign £5.5 Monaco’s massive defender

Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of a full-back is intensifying, with the Premier League club in ‘advanced conversations’ with Monaco’s Ismail Jakobs and Andrea Cambiaso, who are both potentially on their way out of Juventus.

With Omar Richards returning after missing the entire season due to injury, Renan Lodi gone, and Harry Toffolo facing a potential ban for breaking the FA’s betting rules (The Guardian), Steve Cooper is looking for a new left-back two weeks before the start of the new Premier League season.

Ismail Jakobs appears to be the most likely replacement.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest are rapidly closing in on a player who made his name at Koln in the Bundesliga before sealing a £5.5 million move to the Principality in 2021.

“Understand Nottingham Forest are now in advanced talks to sign Ismail Jakobs as new left back,” Romano writes on Twitter. Or is it ‘X’ these days?

“The player is keen on the move. Negotiations are advancing on the club’s side with AS Monaco to reach an agreement soon.”

The jet-heeled Jakobs, capped eight times by Senegal, could be a fine replacement for the departing Renan Lodi, possessing the athleticism and the attacking intent required to thrive in Cooper’s wing-back system.

There is also interest in Andrea Cambiaso, per Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italy U21 international spent last season on loan at Bologna and has yet to play for the Bianconeri since his £7 million move to Turin.

Giovanni Bia, Cambiaso’s agent, believes a permanent exit is possible. Though Juventus would not let him go quietly.

“Juventus was really interested in him. They bet a lot of money on it. And they will undoubtedly make their own judgements before denying themselves his presence,” Bia tells Sky Italia.

“I believe they will also demand a large sum of money.” Some teams approached me last week, and I believe something will happen here as well.

“However, Juventus will not give up on him easily.”
