Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frank Kessie, with the Catalan club reportedly keen to offload the player.
Last season, the 26-year-old went in and out of Barcelona’s starting lineup. He appeared in 28 La Liga games, scoring once and assisting once, with additional appearances in the Champions League and Europa League.
According to Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona hope to cash in on the midfielder ‘this week’, with the Premier League his most likely destination. However, the Spanish giants are eager to get a ‘significant sum’ for the player, given their financial situation.
Kessie himself is said to be keen to stay at Barcelona, but could be open to a move to one of the Premier League ‘big six’ this summer. That hasn’t stopped Villa, as one of the would-be suitors mentioned, taking an ‘interest’ in the player. ‘Some’ of the big six are also said to be eyeing a potential transfer.
Kessie joined Barcelona last summer from AC Milan, and his achievements in Italy have piqued the interest of Serie A clubs like as Juventus. However, the fact that the Italian giants are interested in a loan deal, as well as the player’s dissatisfaction with a return to Italy, may make the transaction unlikely.
With the signing of Youri Tielemans this summer, Villa have already strengthened their midfield options. The Belgian joined on a free transfer after his contract with Leicester City expired this summer.
