Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher appears to be dead in the water ahead of the new season.
The English midfielder had a fantastic season on loan at Crystal Palace in 2021-22, winning their Player of the Year title. Chelsea saw his potential and made him a regular starter last season.
Despite the presence of world-class players such as Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, and Jorginho (for whom Gallagher made 45 appearances across competitions in the first half of the season).
Spurs have emerged as a potential contender for the Englishman’s signature. But journalist Dean Jones believes their interest as of now is pointless. He exclusively told GiveMeSport:
This looks like a transfer we are better off not pursuing. Not only is it a Chelsea player — one of our biggest rivals — but he is also courted by other teams.
His age (23), contract (two more years), and status as a homegrown player will further increase his value. West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Everton, and Newcastle United are all interested in him.
We’re not sure where he fits in Ange Postecoglou’s midfield if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Yves Bissouma stay.
It would be preferable to try to get the most out of guys like Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso, and Oliver Skipp before going after a player that our arch-rivals may not be willing to sell in the first place.
