Elland Road Chairman insists exceptional as 48-year-old would not be joining

With Tottenham and Southampton also interested in the highly regarded technical director, Genk are adamant that the ‘outstanding’ Dimitri de Conde won’t be taking over for Victor Orta at Leeds United.

With Victor Orta gone and chairman Andrea Radrizzani’s future in doubt, Leeds United are in a bind at a time when they need a new manager and a slew of new players to help them adjust to life in the Championship.

Who exactly is in charge at Elland Road these days? Who is in charge of hiring? Who is in charge of selecting Sam Allardyce’s replacement? We are unable to respond to such inquiries in a way that is truly illuminating; Leeds is a team that desperately needs guidance and leadership.

At the very least, Dimitri de Conde would offer that.

Tottenham and Leeds United require a new sporting director.

Since 2015, the 48-year-old has been working in the background at KRC Genk, aiding the Jupiler League powerhouses in capturing just their second championship in the previous 20 years.

De Conde is also recognized with a series of brilliant transfers that brought Genk almost £160 million. These moves included those involving Paul Onuachu, Leandro Trossard, Sander Berge, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Leon Bailey, Joakim Maehle, Wifried Ndidi, Timothy Castagne, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

“De Conde, you interested? In response to a question concerning the long-serving director’s future, chairman Peter Croonen tells TVL that the contrary would surprise him.

“Dimitri is a remarkable talent in many ways. Thankfully, he is also a true Genkie.

He is tremendously appreciative of the possibilities the club has given him, but more importantly, he has lived up to them handsomely and strongly. He is a person who will constantly spark curiosity.

“Has he demonstrated his dedication to us over the long term? He has, indeed. He is someone who wants to stay with us, but whose status we must still watch out for.

Het Nieuwsblad claims that Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur both respect De Conde.

Similar to Leeds, Spurs recently parted ways with their director of football. Fabio Paratici left under a cloud after failing in his bid to overturn a 30-month suspension stemming from what was allegedly “false accounting” at Juventus (The Guardian).
