JUST NOW: Leicester City transfer, Fabio Carvalho, Chelsea battle, Luke Thomas

With the January transfer window now open, many clubs will be looking to make the necessary changes to their squads, and it will be no different for Enzo Maresca’s Leicester City.

The Foxes are flying this season, and it will take a monumental effort from any other side in the Championship to pip them to top spot come the end of the season.

Leicester were in a pretty fierce title race with Ipswich Town just a couple of weeks ago, but recent results have seen the Tractor Boys tail off and are now 10 points behind Maresca’s side.

Championship Table (As it stands January 2nd)
Team P GD Pts
1 Leicester City 26 36 65
2 Ipswich Town 26 15 55
3 Southampton 26 15 52
4 Leeds United 26 20 48
5 West Brom 26 12 42
6 Sunderland 26 8 40
7 Hull City 26 4 39
8 Coventry City 26 10 37

Whilst they look strong favorites for the title, the Foxes can’t afford to get complacent in what is such a competitive League, so they may still look to sign reinforcements with the January transfer window now open.

Recent reports from Sky Sports have suggested that the Championship leaders are interested in a loan move for Liverpool talent Fabio Carvalho.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with Red Bull Leipzig, but a lack of game-time saw the Portuguese U21 international recalled by his parent club on New Years Eve.

With Carvalho back in Merseyside, he is already attracting a host of interest from a number of different Championship clubs, and Leicester City are said to be one of the teams interested in taking him on loan

According to reports from Sky Germany, the Foxes are set to battle with Premier League powerhouses Chelsea for the signature of Wolfsburg defender David Odogu.

The Centre-back was a key part of the Germany U17 World Cup winning squad earlier this year, but could be looking to make the move away from the club, having only featured with the Wolfsburg U19’s so far this season.

The Foxes already have a strong contingent of reliable Centre-backs, but Odogu would be a signing for the future, should they look to finalize that move in the January window

Alan Nixon from the Sun has reported that Sheffield United could be set to send loaned Luke Thomas back to his parent club, in order to free up a loan space within their squad.

The left-back featured in all 12 of Paul Heckingbottom’s games with the Blades earlier on in the season, but since the appointment of Chris Wilder, the 22-year-old has hardly featured for the struggling Premier League side

If he is to return to the King Power stadium, Thomas could struggle for game-time, given the form of James Justin and the fact that Callum Doyle is set to return from injury very soon, so he may be sent out on-loan again, at least until the end of the season
