“Many individuals wish they were in my position.” – P.J. Walker about his start against Seattle in Week 8: Transcript

Columbus, Ohio —Regarding starting against Seattle in Week 8 against the Browns, quarterback P.J. Walker fielded questions from reporters on Friday at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus.

“My only goal while I was there was to figure out how to spend as much time on the field as possible. Seek a method to assist the group. I was going to take care of whatever needed to be done there. When I was there, that’s how I thought.

Cleveland Browns quarterback PJ Walker throws against the Indianapolis Colts in the second half.

It fluctuates. Many people refer to me as either one. Depending on your personality and the length of our relationship. Some guys may know me as Phil, and some guys may know me as P.J. He and Bubba (Ventrone) have been acquainted for some time. I entered the league as Phil, so that’s why he called me that. Thus, it’s cool.

The quantity of transactions you conducted with Indianapolis each week. Almost seemed weekly. How tough was that to handle? How tough was it for you to find your way as a young quarterback, as I know it was?

“It was challenging, but in the end, all I was doing was attempting to figure out how to keep improving every day and staying prepared.” It is really annoying not to be in the building all the time. Fridays were when I would get signed back. The transactions appear that way for that reason. On Fridays, I would resign and go with the team on Saturdays.

Do you feel more grateful for where you are right now when you think back on those times?

“Definitely.”

What distinguishes those? that period of your life during which you were trying to make sense of everything

Only the voyage. My journey thus far. I think back to 2019, when I was merely watching from home and not participating in the league at all. Just opportunities when they come up. You must utilize it to the fullest. Many people would give anything to be in my position. This means that I should seize every chance I get.

Seattle attracts all quarterbacks. They probably received 24 or 25 sacks. Eleven different guys are on that beat with a sack. Just briefly discuss how to get ready for that kind of pressure.

Indeed. Our O-line has performed admirably. Our ability to employ a variety of offensive strategies keeps them off-balance. Just try to get the ball into the hands of my receiver by moving it as much up and down the field as you can. Make an effort to intensify many of the pressures they do present. Therefore, it’s just a matter of trying to play and be efficient for me.

To what extent are you concentrating on preventing turnovers in this game?

Indeed. For me, it’s just a matter of keeping seeing what I see. Play a little bit faster and have a little more faith in my gut. Furthermore, I believe that the plays that are almost interceptions are the result of my failing to follow my gut and make the necessary judgments when they should.

Do you think that as the games progress, you’re becoming more at ease?

Indeed. Play by play, day by day. Every rep you receive matters to me. And every rep counts to me because I just want to come in here and try to pick up the system as quickly as possible.

And your stay in Carolina. I had that chance. I am somewhat aware of the ups and downs. How has it been helpful, in retrospect of that period of your career—I know different team—?

Indeed. Playing is one experience; the experience itself is another. merely to head out there and play in a few straight games while I was in Carolina the previous year. I only participated in one game a year for my first two years. I was able to play five last year. It feels good, therefore, for me to just grasp that and then get into the rhythm and start playing. You grow accustomed to having guys around and experiencing slights. Thus, for me, it’s just a matter of keeping growing, getting better, playing faster, and trying to apply what I learned in Carolina here.

How has your relationship with Kevin Stefanski, P.J., developed over the past few weeks?

It has undoubtedly expanded. Just exchanging ideas back and forth while attempting to ascertain my preferences and his. There can never be too much communication between the quarterback and head coach. I will therefore just keep attempting to speak and converse with him as much as I can. I have to ask him questions at all times—during the match, during practice, during meetings, and about anything in particular.

Yesterday, Amari Cooper mentioned that you might have that clutch to you, and other guys have mentioned how you’ve maintained your cool even when things weren’t going well—possibly in the closing stages. Have you always been like that?

It’s merely a portion of it. Simply going outside and having fun and being present in the moment is not possible when thinking about anything. I make an effort not to allow anything to try to make me feel confused or to make me feel agitated or anything of the sort. Try to approach it in the same way whether it’s your first game play or a two-minute drive.

“We have to talk a lot, be loud, and overcommunicate. We must ensure that everyone is in agreement. Everyone needs to be. Everybody has to talk too much. Not from me alone. Receiver-to-receiver conversations took place. O-line had the last word. We therefore need to all overcommunicate and simply be in agreement.

Where have you played that was the loudest?

“Seattle is the loudest place I’ve played.”

That was when?

“I was there last year, but I didn’t play there.”

How useful was it to see a familiar face when you arrived?

“It worked well. Knowing Bubba (Ventrone) is all. Matt Adams, who knows Ant (Anthony Walker). It felt good to know a couple of the guys who had come here with me from Indianapolis already. It’s also nice to have the sense that you are among guys and aren’t entering a locker room where strangers await you. Thus, for me, that was the best feeling.

In what ways has Deshaun Watson assisted you?

“He’s been excellent. Almost every practice session, I’ve been chatting with him to try to understand what he observes. We are only exchanging messages back and forth. All I’m doing is speculating about what he might do in some of the plays I’ve seen. I’m placing myself in his position as a result.

Did Jerome Ford’s appearance surprise you today?

No, I wasn’t taken aback in the least. I consider him to be a tough guy. He intends to venture forth and endeavor to offer his utmost. He’s going to try to represent the team out there. He presented well.

Have you had time to think about how that game ended? Did you watch it on your own, that is to say?

“Yeah, I watched it.”

What did you think when you went back and watched that?

“I think we overlooked a few plays, including mine. I simply need to be able to hit those guys, that’s all. I swear, I thought Elijah Moore was in the end zone. I was obsessed with that one for the entire week this week. But simply seeing myself go out there and make those throws, getting a feel for it, and being prepared to cut it loose, as well as me being able to get those repetitions and make those throws after practicing.

The owner of the Colts claimed to have tweeted that the NFL had informed him that the flags shouldn’t have been raised. Are you interested in that?”I’m not. Last year, I participated in a game in which a flag shouldn’t have been thrown. It was hurled. We were defeated. Thus, in the end, things do happen. It happens that things don’t always go as you had hoped or expected.
