Joe Rodon’s reaction to Patrick Bamford’s penalty miss was caught by the cameras in Leeds United’s defeat to Stoke City.
In a video posted on Twitter, Rodon was spotted waving his arms in a frustrated manner and turning his back to the miss as Bamford blazed his spot-kick over the bar.
Rodon knew how costly that miss could’ve potentially proven to be and in the end it was, as Leeds went onto lose 1-0, with Bamford having spurned the penalty with the scores at 1-0.
Leeds had been in control of the game up until that point and chances had started to come following a dismal first half in which Daniel Farke’s side never really got going.
Bamford’s miss meant all the momentum in the game switched back to the home side and in the end, they picked up the three points as Leeds conceded from a corner for a third successive match.
Rodon visibly angry at Bamford miss
Rodon’s reaction is a pretty accurate summary of how every Leeds fan felt, as ultimately the outcome felt inevitable as soon as he had the ball in his hands.
Bamford has now missed the last three penalties he has taken for Leeds, all of which have proved costly in terms of points at key situations.
With the way his form has been over the last 12-18 months, there is no way Bamford should’ve been stepping up to take it. On reflection it was a very selfish piece of play.
Leeds have once again lost ground on the top two this evening and while it is still early in the season, there is no way they will be automatically promoted with this level of inconsistency.
The Whites are now nine points behind Ipswich Town, who have a game in hand. Leicester City are also 14 points clear and in all honesty, they look beyond catching already.
