The Premier League are said to be demanding a 12-point deduction as maximum punishment if Nottingham Forest’s top flight rivals Everton are found guilty of breaching financial rules.
The Merseysiders were charged by the Premier League with an alleged breach of financial fair play rules in March. They are thought to have recorded huge losses of £372m over the past three years, well over the Premier League’s £105m threshold.
And the Telegraph report that the Premier League has recommended a 12-point deduction if the Toffees are found guilty with a decision due later this year. The final decision will be made by an independent panel.
The Telegraph report adds that other potential sanctions for Everton, if they are found guilty, include a fine and transfer embargo.
Everton insist that they have complied with the rules and that they will “robustly defend” their position.
The Toffees currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, three points behind Forest.
