Although Krafth may fall behind Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento in the Magpies’ pecking order even after regaining full fitness, head coach Eddie Howe insists the 29-year-old is still a ‘essential’ member of his team.
“It’s early steps for Emil but great to see him back, he’s a brilliant character,” Howe said, providing an update on the defender.
“He’s trained four or five times now and he’s gotten better with each one, and I think the group is glad to see him back, he’s got a great mentality and is a vital part of our squad.”
Krafth has appeared in 64 games for Newcastle after arriving from Amiens for £5 million in 2019. He last played for the club in August 2022, when he suffered a catastrophic ACL injury in a 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Tranmere Rovers.
Following Trippier’s injury, Krafth was instrumental in keeping Newcastle in the Premier League for the 2021-22 season.
