Unai Emery, manager of Aston Villa, has provided an injury update on defender Diego Carlos.
The hamstring injury was sustained by the center-back during Villa’s 3-0 loss at Liverpool on September 3. Emery classified the injury as “small” at the time, and he has now provided an update on the 30-year-old.
Emery provided an injury update and verified Carlos’ return to training after the defeat to Legia Warsaw on Thursday evening. He emphasized the necessity of his squad’s other defenders, especially considering the fixture congestion caused by Europa Conference League participation.
“We’re hoping he’ll be ready to start training with the group within the next week,” Emery stated. “We can use other players with similar experience as him, and then we can try to play matches like the ones we’re playing on Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday.” We can employ and practice many tactical decisions, and we can play stronger.”
Villa return to Premier League action on Sunday (14:00 BST) when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Carlos will be returning to group training next week, so that match will come too soon. He could play against Brighton at home on Saturday, September 30, or against Zrinjski five days later.
