Scarpa joined Forest as a free agent at the start of this year after he left Palmeiras. He made 10 appearances for Steve Cooper’s side last season but was hindered by injuries and off-field issues as he struggled to pin down a starting spot.

According to Brazilian media outlet SBT, the 29-year-old could now return to Palmeiras at the start of 2024. Reporter Alvaro Loureiro explained on social media how Flamengo have also shown an interest in Scarpa but he would “prefer” to return to his former club

The Brazilian penned a three-and-a-half-year deal when he linked up with Forest. He has featured five times for Olympiacos so far, with just one of those appearances coming as part of the first XI.

He was linked with several other teams in the summer, prior to his switch to Greece, with Palmeiras, Flamengo and Turkish outfit Besiktas. But at the time, he suggested he would be happy to stay Trentside, writing on Instagram: “Scarpinha very happy here in England,” he wrote. “May this season be much better than the last one.”

The Reds brought in 13 new players during the summer window. However, they made trimming numbers just as much of a priority as overseeing incomings. Scarpa finds himself as one of several players currently out on loan as Forest focus on trying to push on in the Premier League.
