Joel Piroe admits he has been a little surprised with the position he has played at Update ; Leeds playerleft surprised by the role Daniel Farke has given him but thinks it is a role that suits him well.
Piroe was speaking in an interview with BBC Radio Leeds where he was asked whether he was surprised at how Daniel Farke has used him during his early days at Elland Road.
The 24-year-old made the move from Swansea City in a £10.5 million deal last month and has started all three Championship matches he has been available for.
As was expected of him when he was signed, Piroe has been on fire in front of goal with three goals in as many matches, including a brace in the 3-0win at Millwall on Sunday.
Piroe admits surprise at Farke role
Speaking ahead of tonight’s trip to Hull City, Piroe says he did not necessarily expect to be used in this way but feels it is a position that suits his skillset.
“I think it has been a little bit of a surprise but the staff explain it really well, how they want to see me play and give me the space to play deeper as well. They explain it to me and I think it is a role that really suits me as well.”
Certainly in the two away matches, there is no doubt that this dynamic has worked with Leeds having scored seven goals, three of which were from Piroe.
However, against Sheffield Wednesday, where there was much less space, Piroe struggled to get in the game and Leeds‘ attack were frustrated for much of the 90 minutes.
When Leeds do come up against those opponents, it is important that Piroe gets as close as possible to Rutter so he can be on the end of the chances.
