Tony Cascarino has blasted Matheus Nunes for going on strike at Wolves to force a move to Manchester City.
The midfielder left Molineux on transfer deadline day, joining the Premier League champions for a final fee of around £53 million.
He did not train after the Everton game, causing a big issue for Wolves.
He wanted to force through a move, and was he ultimately successful in doing that.
Wolves sold, and reinvested the money in four new players; Santiago Bueno, Enso Gonzalez, Tommy Doyle and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
But Nunes’ behaviour has not been forgotten, with Cascarino taking a swipe at the Portuguese today…
Tony Cascarino slams Matheus Nunes for going on strike at Wolves
Today the Nunes transfer to City came up again on talkSPORT.
And Cascarino made it very clear what he thought about the 25-year-old’s antics.
He said: “If you’re going on strike, you shouldn’t be paid at all. I think there should be a law against this. Footballers that think that going on strike as a solution to get what they want is not on. I never would have gone on strike, under any circumstances, and I moved a few times in my career. 99.9% of people would not do that.
“If I was a manager and I wanted a player, and he went on strike at the club he was at… I’m not sure I’d want him. I’d be thinking if there was a move he wanted somewhere afterwards and you’re prepared to go on striker, I’m not sure I’d want him.”
Disgraceful from Nunes, but he was never staying at Wolves for long
Nunes’ behaviour was very unprofessional.
He says there is more to the story, but has so far held back on revealing any details.
So Wolves fans can only go off how the situation came across publicly.
Nunes refusing to training was really poor.
But ultimately, he got what he wanted and to be honest, it never felt like he was going to stay at Wolves for long.
Thankfully, Wolves were just able to do a decent deal right at the end of the window.
